Setup Guide

Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to get TERA running on your PC.

Download the Client

Get the game files

Click the Download Client button above to start downloading Tera-Client.zip. The file is approximately 35 GB — make sure you have enough free disk space and a stable connection.

💡

Tip: Use a download manager (like JDownloader or Free Download Manager) for large files — it can resume interrupted downloads.

Extract the ZIP File

Unpack the game to a folder

Extract to your chosen location

Once downloaded, right-click the ZIP file and select "Extract All..." or use a tool like 7-Zip or WinRAR.

Recommended install location: D:\Games\TERA\

Extract to a folder with no spaces in the path
Do NOT extract to Program Files (permission issues)
Make sure you have at least 50 GB free after extraction
Do NOT rename any files or folders inside

Important: Your antivirus may flag the game files. Add the TERA folder to your antivirus exclusions before extracting.

Create a Desktop Shortcut

Easy access to the launcher

Navigate to your extracted TERA folder and find the Launcher executable:

Launcher location: D:\Games\TERA\Launcher.exe

To create a desktop shortcut:

Right-click on Launcher.exe
Select "Send to" → "Desktop (create shortcut)"
Alternatively: Right-click → "Create shortcut" → drag to Desktop

💡

Tip: Right-click the shortcut → Properties → "Run as administrator" to avoid potential issues.

Create Your Account

Create your free account

Before you can log in, you need a game account. Head to our registration page:

Create Free Account →

Username: 3-13 characters, letters and numbers only
Password: 8+ characters with uppercase, lowercase, number & symbol
Email: required (for account recovery)

Your login credentials are the same for both the launcher and the website.

Launch & Play

Enter the world of Arborea

Double-click the TERA Launcher shortcut on your Desktop
The launcher will check for updates (first launch may take a moment)
Enter your username and password
Click "Play"
Select the Kaiator server
Create your character and begin your adventure!

Help

Common Issues

"Application blocked by antivirus"

Add the entire TERA folder to your antivirus exclusions. Windows Defender: Settings → Virus & Threat Protection → Exclusions → Add Folder.

"Cannot connect to server"

Make sure you're using the correct launcher from our download. Check that your firewall isn't blocking TERA. Try running the launcher as Administrator.

"DirectX error on launch"

Install the latest DirectX End-User Runtime from Microsoft. Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

"Game crashes at character select"

Try running in compatibility mode (Windows 7). Lower your graphics settings. Make sure you have at least 4 GB free RAM.
